Housing Minister Pennelope Beckles attends official opening of Playpark in Tobago
The Honourable Pennelope Beckles recently attended the official opening of the Coral Gardens Community Park led by THA Assemblyman for Buccoo/Mt. Pleasant, the Honourable Ancil Dennis.
The Playpark was developed in partnership with the Settlements, Urban Renewal and Public Utilities Division of the Tobago House of Assembly and corporate sponsor, Warner Construction and Sanitation Limited, while the Housing Development Corporation provided the exercise and playground equipment, at a cost of $350,000.00.
The equipment installed includes swing sets, merry-go-round, climbing beam, spring riders, cycle, push and pull, rowing machine and pullup bar to name a few, in addition to park benches and picnic tables.
This is the second such playground facility in Tobago which the Housing Development Corporation has been involved with as part of its holistic development of its housing communities. The first was the Adventure Community Park in Plymouth, Tobago which was opened in August, 2019. This, too, saw the collaboration of the HDC, the Settlements, Urban Renewal and Public Utilities Division of the Tobago House of Assembly and corporate sponsor, First Citizens Bank TT.
The importance of these community facilities cannot be understated as they form part of the Ministry’s mandate to provide safe, inclusive, resilient and sustainable communities for the growth and development of our people wherever they may be.
Among the dignitaries in attendance at the opening ceremony was the Managing Director of the HDC, Ms. Jayselle MacFarlane and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Claire Davidson-Williams.
