The mission of the Library & Information Services Unit (LISU) is to provide relevant, accurate and timely information to support the information and research needs of the Ministry, its staff and agencies.
Services include document delivery, online database searching, inter-library loan, and current awareness. Library staff also assists in formulating research strategies and compiling bibliographies for varied topics. Some topics may be detailed and require extensive research, therefore it is incumbent on the user to contact us in a timely manner.
The Library’s collections cover a broad range of topics including:
- Housing and housing policy
- Urban development
- Community development
- Population, housing right s and poverty
- Economic development
- Housing finance
- Legislation and court judgements
Hours and Access
Opening hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. The Ministry’s Library is intended for the exclusive use of the staff of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development as well as officers of the government public service. Access is allowed for members of the public who are researching housing-related issues. External users may not borrow items but are permitted to use the information resources in the Reading Area.
Collection
The Library collection consists of reference books, monographs, journals, newspapers, government publications, conference reports and maps/plans. The collection spans several subject areas including Law, Community Development, Housing Policy, Economic policy and Procurement.
Items are available in both print and electronic format. In addition, the Library subscribes to several databases and online journals related to housing, community development and urban development. This includes Taylor and Francis, EBSCOhost Online, The Digital Library on Human Settlements and Urbanization.
