40 Families Receive Housing Packages at Nepuyo Court
With a couple of days to go before independence, forty(40) families received packages to their very own homes at the Nepuyo Court Housing Development in Malabar, earlier today. The Housing Distribution Ceremony was hosted by the Housing Development Corporation – HDC on the 6.15 acre development located at Henry Peters Road, Malabar, Arima.
Works for this development which has a total yield of ninety-four (94) units, started in July 2007 but were subsequently suspended. In May 2017, works resumed and approximately 50 units have since been delivered.
Speaking on the work of the government, Housing and Urban Development Minister, the Hon. Major General (Ret’d) Edmund Dillon said, “we were also able to complete seven (7) projects, some of which were started prior to 2010 and suspended during the period 2010 – 2015. We have been able to distribute 2, 347 homes to deserving families such as yourselves. To further our home construction programme, we have also turned sod on seven (7) new projects in East and South Trinidad. Just two weeks ago we were able to distribute seventy-six (76) units in Phase 1 of River Runs Through in Arima, which was the very first project started under this Administration.”
As Trinidad and Tobago gets ready to celebrate its 56th Anniversary as an Independent State, Minister Dillon challenged those in attendance to “let this be a time to stand up and be proud of our history, our culture and our people regardless of our political persuasions, and be willing to leave this place we call home a lot better off than when we found it.”
Also speaking at today’s Housing Distribution Ceremony was Brigadier General (Ret’d) Ancil Antoine, Member of Parliament for D’Abadie/O’Meara, who congratulated the new homeowners and welcomed them to the community.
