Housing Minister Continues His Drive to deliver 1000 homes by Christmas
Last Saturday (December 03, 2016) Honourable Minister Randall Mitchell continued to deliver on his promise to allocate 1000 homes before Christmas to applicants of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development’s Housing programme. Minister Mitchell was able to distribute approximately 200 homes to deserving low to middle income families with considerable help from his Cabinet colleague, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart Young and Chairman of the Board of the HDC, Mr Newman George. Also on hand to assist was the Permanent Secretary (Ag) of the Ministry, Ms. Simone Thorne-Mora, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ms. Marion Hayes and Mr. Brent Lyons, Managing Director (Ag) of the HDC. The key distribution exercise took place at the Auditorium, Government Campus Plaza on Richmond Street in Port of Spain.
Homes were distributed within several developments located in Central and South Trinidad such as at Cypress Hills in Union Hall, San Fernando; Fairfield Gardens in Princes Town; Oasis Gardens in Chaguanas; and, Lake View in La Brea. As recipients received their keys, Minister Mitchell urged them to convert their License to Occupy agreements to mortgages as soon as possible so that the HDC can invest in more housing developments to the redound of the national community. Minister Mitchell is determined to strengthen and expand the Ministry’s housing programme, and as such has promised to have three more sod turning events before the end of the year in Gomez Trace in Moruga, Trestrail in Arima and Corinth in San Fernando in keeping with the Ministry’s 2016 target of 1000 housing starts. These activities highlight Government’s commitment to providing affordable attractive homes to qualifying applicants of the Ministry’s Housing Programme.
