Housing and Urban Development Minister presents Instruments of Appointment to new HDC Board
The Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis, Minister of Housing and Urban
Development presented Instruments of Reappointment and Appointment to Members of the newly installed Board of the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC), at a ceremony held today (February 14, 2023) at the Ministry’s Conference Room, South Quay, Port-of- Spain.
In accordance with the provisions outlined in Section 7(4) of the HDC Act Chpt. 33.03, Mr. Noel Garcia and Mr. Kurt Winston Salandy, have both been re-appointed, to serve as Chairman and Deputy Chair, respectively. The other members of the Board include Mr. Danté Machel Selman-Carrington, Ms. Simone Ashby, Mr. Sanjiv Boodhu, Dr. Joseph Jacob and, Mrs. Joanne Deoraj. In congratulating the returning and new members, the Honourable Minister commended them for accepting and bringing their collective knowledge and experience to the Board, thus meeting the needs of the public housing sector. Minister Robinson-Regis reiterated the Government’s commitment to ensuring that there is access to decent, affordable housing as articulated in the National Development Strategy, Vision 2030.
The Minister was high in praise of Chairman Garcia’s professionalism and steadfast focus, as Chairman of both the HDC and UDeCOTT. Remarking that ‘under his watch, the HDC in 2022 alone, was able to deliver houses to 770 families, despite the challenges of the Covid-19 restrictions placed on the construction sector, and the rising cost of building
materials.
Challenging the Board to work in the interest of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, Minister Robinson-Regis reminded them to be guided by the principles of good governance, carry out their responsibilities with transparency, accountability and equity, maintain the highest standards of corporate governance and ensure the best interest of those they serve, in keeping with Government policy.
She underscored that they should work collaboratively to arrive at the best decisions for the continued development of the Corporation and its newly created subsidiaries. New entities established to provide the necessary impetus to create opportunities to drive economic growth and wealth creation.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were, newly appointed Permanent Secretary (Ag.) of the Ministry Mrs. Shanmatee Singh Ng Sang, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Ms. Nirmala Ramlogan, HDC’s Managing Director, Ms. Jayselle McFarlane, HDC’s Corporate Secretary, Ms. Kenesha Lightbourne, Senior Staff of the Ministry and HDC’s Executive Management.
