A key part of our mandate is the Regularisation of Squatters
The Land Settlement Agency (LSA) is one of the agencies under the remit of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. It was established by the State Land (Regularisation of Tenure) Act of Parliament No 25 of 1998 and started operations in 1999. Its main aims are to regularise and contain squatting in Trinidad and Tobago.
In accordance with its legislation and through the Squatter Regularisation Programme, the LSA improves the living conditions of squatting communities within designated areas and ensures security of land tenure for eligible persons. Through this programme, eligible squatters are provided with electricity, sewerage treatment systems, roads, drainage and public lighting.
Beneficiaries of this programmes are those persons who have been occupying State Lands prior to January 01, 1998.
